Six identical shards of glass adorn the sidewalk. Through the perfectly circular hole in the window blows a breeze. A man sits in a chair, the only piece of furniture in the room. There are no doors. He and the chair are both larger than the hole. How did he get there? Who is this man? Why does he look so familiar? He looks up at you, smiling, his words slowly roll out of his mouth, "there was another time, when this room did not exist. It was in the future, when I was someone else. You were there too."
The woman standing behind you grabs your shoulder and whispers in your ear, "Don't forget about the future, it has not come to pass what will be in the past. When it does, we will be there, waiting."
The chair is gone, the man now standing and gesturing for you to come forward. Without thinking you walk through the glass. The woman appears again in front of you.
"We are time travelers. We are the past, the present, and the future. We cannot be stopped, but you already know this, don't you, Alex?" The man touches his index finger to your forehead.
Your voice trembles, unable to form the words your brain has chosen. "Don't worry, Alex, we know what you want to say. We can read your thoughts," says the woman as she circles you the way a vulture does, awaiting the death of it's prey.
A bead of sweat drips down your face, as it hits the ground you can feel the breeze subside. The man and woman are both gone. As you turn around you realize that you never left the place where you once stood, observing a man in a room. The window now complete and the room now empty.
Your wrists wrapped in bandages, you begin to unravel them. The skin beneath the cloth is so pale, flaking away as you scratch it off. You look up through the window again, you can see them both in the reflection, standing behind you, laughing.
Looking back down, you see the bandages are back on your wrists, blood is seeping from them. You fall backwards into a chair. The sound of music comes from down the street, getting louder as it seems to draw closer. The sky grows dark and you start to fall asleep.
Her voice still echoes in your mind, the last words as you fall asleep, "we will be there, waiting..."
